The Kilgore Colored-C.B. Dansby High School ("KCHS-CBDHS") Memorial Site Committee will be presenting, “Carrying the Torch” - - a generation to generation talent/fashion show, and alma mater contest on Saturday, September 25, 2010, 4-7 pm at the Longview Community Center, 500 Whaley Street, Longview.

A soul stirring afternoon of joy is anticipated as the mountain moving vocals of Kilgore's very own up and rising recording artist, Christine Camille Manns, raises the roof with hits from her CD, "Camille". Also headlining the event will be the liturgical praise dance team Clearer Praise (formerly God's Anointed in Motion), and award winning Dramatic Praise (the nationally known praise dance team of Abundant Life Ministries of Longview, Pastor Earl and Evangelist Tina Bonner). Heads will be bobbin' and hands will be clapping, as performing artist Shanita B Nita Brown bridges the generational gap with gospel rap. Artists Yasmine PromisedBettah Roberts, (Tatum High School), and Terran "ANOINTED PRAISE" Dixon, (drill king and dance instructor of Parkview Baptist Church, Longview) will ministering in solo dance.

The event will showcase the gifts and talent of alumni, former students, their descendants, family members, and friends. Under the direction of Pamela Clear (daughter of deceased former student of Dansby elementary, James Clear) the New Birth Fellowship Church mime troupe, T-BOY (Taking Back Our Youth), will touch the hearts of the young and old. Just as she hailed the halls during the good old Dansby days as one of "Dansby's Marvelous Marvelettes", Georgia Porter Jones (songstress, Red Oak Baptist Choir and Gospel Workshop of America, Longview), will be wailing down the walls at 500 Whaley.

The mother and son team of Mable Streets (owner of ADS Fashions by Mable) and Samori (owner of Street Casuals) will shine their light on the generation to generation spirit of entrepreneurship as they coordinate the fashion show. Among the lineup of those proudly stepping in style with their descendants alongside will be the "fly" family of alumni Calvin (class of '65) and Sherry Williams, Mildred London (class of '62), former Dansby student, Audrey Orange Smith. Also stepping in style will be Ciara Clayton, greatgranddaughter of alumni Jewel Powe (class of '59). In addition to providing fashions for the generation of hip hop models, Samori will be the afternoon's emcee.

The afternoon's featured attraction will be the alma mater contest (age 13-21). A first place trophy and $150 cash will be awarded to the contestant with the most creative and best overall presentation of the KCHS-CBDHS SCHOOL SONG. There will be 4 categories: poetic expression, song, rap, dance (step teams, tap, ballet) with a winner in each category. Runners-up will win: 2nd place-$100; 3rd & 4th place-$75 each.
